Toowoomba isn’t just the city of food and culture (although the city is definitely steeped in history). It’s home to the Carnival of Flowers – a gorgeous parade that’s been around since 1949! The flower shows and parades take centre stage in this brightly-coloured event, alongside countless markets selling everything from floral plants to succulents. The carnival happens only once a year, but don’t fret – there are plenty of places to buy plants in Toowoomba!

(And if you need help caring for all the leafy friends you buy, hire a gardening service in Toowoomba, too.)

If you’re in the city of fun and food, then you’ll want some florals (and other plants) to spruce up your home. Here’s where to buy plants in Toowoomba – year-round.

The Crows Nest Community Nursery

Native plants aren’t just excellent as ornamentals; they’re an important food and shelter source for local animals. At The Crows Nest Community Nursery, they help support native wildlife by growing and propagating indigenous trees, shrubs, and ground cover plants. Since native foliage has developed to thrive in Australian environments, they’re perfect for any garden.

By shopping at The Crows Nest, you’re also supporting your local community – most of their staff are volunteers. The nursery started over 20 years ago as an environmental initiative to provide plants for revegetation and for local landowners, and has grown ever since.

The Crows Nest has an extensive seed and seedling bank, and they also accept seed donations. If you’re looking for something specific, you’re welcome to browse their leaflets and find what you need. The nursery is open each Thursday from 8:30am–1:00pm.

Pohlmans Garden Centre and Retail Nursery

“A Pohlmans plant is not just grown – it is nurtured.” With this belief, Pohlmans Garden Centre and Retail Nursery has spent over 40 years as Toowoomba’s “Plant People”. They’re one of the largest independently-owned plant nurseries in Queensland, and their passion for all things green is just as immense.

Pohlmans is well-known for their gourmet vegetables and fresh herbs (which, you’ve got to try), but they’ve got an extensive selection of potted flowers, plus indoor and outdoor foliage. Their 30-odd years of nursery expertise means they only grow the highest quality plants for your garden. And of course, their friendly and knowledgeable staff are more than happy to help you out with any of your plant needs. They even have a Garden Club to help you out with your plant care!

With 700 varieties of plants available, you’ll be spoiled for choice at Pohlmans. Their retail nursery is open to the public every day from 8:30AM–5:00PM. You can book a tour or event in their factory, too!

If you want a productive home garden – or just love fruit trees – then this specialised nursery is the place for you.

Beyond their extensive tree selection, Fruit Tree Lane also has plenty of resources available to help you as a plant parent. They have a section for Growing Tips on their website, which shares their knowledge of getting fruit trees to thrive. Fruit Tree Lane supplies all your fruiting tree needs at their nursery, from tubestock to more advanced plants. They also have an online nursery with small to medium plant sizes available for purchase. But if you want your plant ASAP, drop by the nursery on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00AM to 3:00PM – and go back home with your new leafy friend (or two)!
